The Construction Management Certificate non-credit program prepares students for immediate employment in the building trades or advancement into the Construction Technology credit program. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab work, students gain practical skills in blueprint reading, construction techniques, safety protocols, and industry-relevant mathematics. Graduates of this program are eligible to articulate earned training into the college’s credit-based Construction Technology Certificate or Diploma programs.

Certificate of Completion from Iowa Western Community College Learning Outcomes:
- Accurately interpret residential blueprints and construction documents
- Apply industry-standard construction techniques and materials
- Demonstrate safe work practices on construction sites
- Understand core math concepts used in the construction industry
- Identify and explain the principles of basic building construction

- Technical Math for Trades (TRADE-111 2) - 30 hours
- Residential Blueprint Reading (TRADE-103 2) - 30 hours
- Principles of Building Construction I (TRADE-102 2) - 30 hours
- Building Construction Techniques I (TRADE-101 3) - 50 hours
- Construction Safety (TRADE-104 2) - 20 hours
Admission Requirements:
- Minimum age 17
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Physical ability to perform basic construction tasks
- English literacy for safety and instruction comprehension
Attendance Requirements:
- 90% attendance required to complete the program
- One excused absence permitted per course; additional absences must be approved
- Tardiness beyond 10 minutes is recorded and tracked
- Students must complete all hands-on projects and classroom assignments to receive credit
- Unsatisfactory progress may result in dismissal
Instruction Qualification:
Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching. |
