HVAC/R Maintenance Certificate (Non-Credit to Credit Pathway)

This non-credit HVAC/R Maintenance Certificate program provides foundational training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Designed for individuals seeking entry-level employment or a pathway into credit-based HVAC/R programs, this hands-on program focuses on system safety, repair, troubleshooting, and service. Upon completion, students are eligible to articulate into the HVAC/R Technology diploma program and receive credit for aligned coursework.

Learning Outcomes:


•    Safely perform basic HVAC/R tasks following industry standards
•    Diagnose and repair common HVAC/R system problems
•    Understand forced air heating systems and basic electrical concepts

•    Use math concepts relevant to the HVAC/R trade

Course Outline:


  1. Intro to HVAC/R and Safety (TRADE-83 2) - 16 hours
  2. Applied Practices I: Repair & Service (TRADE-82 1) - 32 hours
  3. Forced Air Heating - HVAC/R (TRADE-80 1) - 24 hours
  4. Electricity for HVAC/R (TRADE-81 1) - 32 hours
  5. Technical Math for Trades (TRADE-111 2) - 40 hours

Admission Requirements:


  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent recommended
  • Basic reading and math skills assessment may be required

Attendance Requirements:


  • 90% attendance required for successful completion
  • Leave of absence must be requested in writing and approved in advance
  • Two unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the program
  • Tardiness beyond 15 minutes may be recorded as a partial absence
  • All course requirements must be completed to receive a certificate
