Intermediate Welding Certificate

This hands-on course is designed for individuals seeking to develop the core welding skills necessary for entry-level employment in today’s high-tech manufacturing environment. Students will gain experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), focusing on welding safety, equipment use, general welding theory, and quality craftsmanship. Instruction also includes essential math and blueprint reading for fabricators. Students will prepare for the AWS D1.1 welding qualification test on a 3/8” plate, with the first qualification attempt covered by Iowa Western. Successful completion increases employability, though certification is not guaranteed.

Admissions Requirements:

- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Safety-toe boots and appropriate shop attire
Attendance Requirements:
• 90% attendance required for certificate • Excused absences must be approved in advance • More than two unexcused absences may result in dismissal • All coursework must be completed to receive certificate • Students must demonstrate satisfactory progress in lab skills Instructror Qualification:
Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching. |
