Class B CDL with Passenger/School Bus Driver Course

This two-week training program prepares individuals to earn their Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements. Students will receive hands-on and classroom training focused on safe and effective school bus operation. The course includes instruction using driving simulators, classroom study, and real-time behind-the-wheel experience on a 48-ft school bus.
Designed to meet state and federal requirements, this course provides foundational knowledge, practical skills, and test preparation for a successful career as a professional school bus driver.
 

Award Type:


Certificate of Completion from Iowa Western Community College & Commercial Driver’s License with School Bus & Passenger Endorsement from the American Association of Motor Vehicles Administration (AAMVA)

Learning Outcomes:


  • Demonstrate safe and lawful operation of a school bus
  • Identify and apply pre-trip inspection procedures
  • Understand defensive and advanced driving techniques
  • Navigate school bus-specific rules and loading/unloading safety
  • Comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) health and licensing standards

Educational Objective:


Vocational - Prepares students for immediate employment as licensed Class B School Bus Drivers.

Tuition:


$1,200 for school-sponsored bus drivers

Included in Tuition:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Simulator and range/road driving experience
  • Instructional materials
  • Behind-the-wheel vehicle use
  • Skills testing preparation

Students are responsible for:

  • CLP Permit Fee: $12
  • DOT Physical Examination (cost varies)
  • Any retesting fees (if applicable)

80 Contact Hours & hybrid

Course Outline:


  1. Session 1 - Introduction to TIG Welding, Safety Review (4 hrs.)
  2. Session 2 - Machine Setup, Torch Operation (4 hrs.)
  3. Session 3 - Flat Position Welds on Steel (4 hrs.)
  4. Session 4 - Horizontal and Vertical Welds (4 hrs.)
  5. Session 5 - Welding Aluminum Techniques (4 hrs.)
  6. Session 6 - Welding Stainless Steel Techniques (4 hrs.)
  7. Session 7 - Weld Defects & Quality Inspection (4 hrs.)
  8. Session 8 - Final Project & Performance Review (4 hrs.)

Admission Requirements:


  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Completion of basic welding or equivalent experience (preferred, not required)
  • Steel-toe boots and long sleeves required

Attendance Requirements:


  • Students must attend at least 80% of class sessions
  • More than two unexcused absences may result in dismissal
  • Incomplete work must be done within one week of the missed session

Instructor Qualification:


Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching.
