CDL: ELDT Theory HAZMAT
|

This online course is designed for commercial drivers who wish to add a Hazardous Materials Endorsement (H) to their current CDL license. In accordance with Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations, individuals must complete this theory-based course before taking the HAZMAT knowledge test. Upon successful completion, training results will be submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. This flexible course is 100% online and can be completed anytime, anywhere.

Award Type:
Certificate of Completion from Iowa Western Community College & Endorsement from the American Association of Motor Vehicles Administration (AAMVA) Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the regulations and responsibilities associated with transporting hazardous materials
- Identify hazard classes and proper shipping documentation
- Recognize packaging, labeling, and placarding requirements
- Demonstrate knowledge of emergency response procedures and safe handling practices
- Prepare for and successfully pass the HAZMAT knowledge test
Educational Objective:
Vocational - to prepare individuals for the hazardous materials knowledge exam required to obtain an H endorsement on their CDL. Tuition:
$100 Includes access to online curriculum, submission of training records to FMCSA, and technical support. Does not include the cost of fingerprinting, background checks, or state knowledge test fees. Length of Course:

- Introduction to Hazardous Materials (1 hour)
- Hazard Classes and Divisions (1.5 hours)
- Packaging and Container Markings (1 hour)
- Shipping Papers and Documentation (1 hour)
- Placarding and Labeling Requirements (1 hour)
- Handling and Emergency Procedures (1.5 hours)
- Safe Driving and Security Awareness (1 hour)
Admission Requirements:
- Must possess a valid CDL
- Must be eligible to pursue a Hazardous Materials Endorsement under federal and state law
Attendance Requirements:
As this is a self-paced, online course, students must complete all required modules and assessments within 60 days of enrollment. Incomplete work beyond the course deadline may result in no certificate of completion. Instructor Qualification:
Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching. Additional Note:
Additional requirements to obtain an H endorsement (background check, fingerprinting, TSA clearance, and state-administered knowledge exam) are not provided by IWCC and must be completed independently. |
