Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program prepares students to provide life-saving care in prehospital settings. Through face-to-face instruction, lab work, and clinical experience, students will learn to assess, stabilize, and transport patients of all ages. The program follows the national standard curriculum and meets requirements to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam.

Admission Requirements:

At least 17 years of age upon enrollment
Certified in AHA Healthcare Provider CPR
Proficient in the English language
Physically able to perform EMT functions (e.g., lifting, carrying, patient movement)
Documentation of current physical exam
Proof of immunizations, including:

• Current vaccinations

• Two (2) Step Tuberculin Skin Tests
Criminal background check

Attendance Requirements:

Students will be required to complete 36 field internship hours and 24 clinical internship hours. Internship time will be spent with various departments and hospitals. No more than 12 hours’ absence, for any reason, will be allowed throughout the entire course. Any student who is absent for more than 12 hours will be reviewed by the Emergency Services Coordinator at which time any disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the course may occur.

Instructor Qualification:

Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching.
