Additive Manufacturing

This 11-week, 33-hour certification course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of additive manufacturing (AM). Students will explore the seven recognized AM technologies, their respective benefits and limitations, basic safety guidelines, and the complete 3D printing process. The course also covers essential hardware and software used in 3D digital file preparation and management, as well as commonly used materials for each AM process.

Learning Outcomes:


  • Describe the principles and scope of additive manufacturing
  • Identify and compare the seven AM technologies
  • Evaluate the benefits and limitations of various 3D printing methods
  • Understand the 3D printing workflow, including design, slicing, and printing
  • Operate basic 3D printing hardware and manage 3D digital files
  • Select appropriate materials based on the chosen AM technology and application
  • Apply fundamental safety procedures related to additive manufacturing equipment and processes

Vocational - This course is designed to prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing, prototyping, and product development through hands-on experience and conceptual knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies.

  • Hands-on Printing and Troubleshooting - 2 hours

Attendance Requirements:


If a student misses two or more classes their employer will be notified that they have missed two classes. IWCC will also notify the company every time that same individual misses any other classes. The student can work with the instructor to make up the class work and class time.

Instructor Qualification:


Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching.
