This 11-week, 33-hour course provides an introduction to non-contact sensors used in industrial automation. Students will explore the principles, types, and applications of inductive and capacitive proximity sensors, photoelectric eyes, and other analog sensing devices commonly found in industrial machine control systems. Additionally, three hours of the course will be dedicated to developing students’ professional soft skills for the workplace.

  • Overview of Non-Contact Sensors - 2 hours
  • Inductive Proximity Sensors - 4 hours
  • Capacitive Proximity Sensors - 4 hours
  • Photoelectric Sensors: Types and Applications - 6 hours
  • Analog Sensors and Their Industrial Applications - 4 hours
  • Sensor Selection and Troubleshooting - 4 hours

Attendance Requirements:


If a student misses two or more classes their employer will be notified that they have missed two classes. IWCC will also notify the company every time that same individual misses any other classes. The student can work with the instructor to make up the class work and class time.

Instructor Qualification:


Instructor is registered, certified, or licensed in the occupational area in which the state requires registration, certification or licensure for the occupational area in which the instructor is teaching.
