This online HAZWOPER course provides 40 hours of training on OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standards. The course satisfies training requirements outlined in OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910.120 and 1926.65, which require workers to complete HAZWOPER training before starting work at an uncontrolled hazardous waste operation.

HAZWOPER training prepares cleanup and emergency response workers to operate safely during a variety of scenarios involving hazardous substances. Module 1: Introduction to HAZWOPER (2 hours) - Overview of 29 CFR 1910.120 and HAZWOPER scope
- History, purpose, and regulatory framework
- Employer responsibilities and worker rights
Module 2: Hazardous Substances (4 hours) - Types and characteristics of hazardous substances
- Exposure routes and potential health impacts
- Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS)
Module 3: Hazard Recognition and Toxicology (4 hours) - Physical and health hazards of chemicals
- Understanding toxicology: dose-response, exposure limits
- Recognizing signs and symptoms of chemical exposure
Module 4: Physical, Mechanical, and Electrical Hazards (3 hours) - Common site-specific hazards
- Lockout/tagout basics
- Working around heavy equipment and electrical hazards
Module 5: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (5 hours) - Types and levels of PPE (A, B, C, D)
- Selection, use, limitations, and maintenance
- Respiratory protection overview
Module 6: HAZWOPER Work Zones & Communication (3 hours) - Exclusion, Contamination Reduction, and Support Zones
- Establishing control boundaries
- Effective radio and visual communication
Module 7: Air Monitoring and Detection (3 hours) - Types of air monitoring equipment
- Monitoring for oxygen levels, combustibles, and toxics
- Interpreting results and taking action
Module 8: Decontamination Procedures (3 hours) - Decon line setup and PPE cleaning
- Emergency decontamination
- Disposal of decontamination waste
Module 9: Site Health and Safety Plans (3 hours) - Required elements of a Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP)
