LEAN 101

This one-day course is designed for participants with little to no prior knowledge of Lean who are interested in learning the fundamental concepts and practices used to improve work processes and quality. The course incorporates a hands-on simulation, which may be delivered through either a torch (flashlight assembly) or circuit board activity. The torch simulation serves as an introductory Lean 101 exercise, while the circuit board simulation provides a more in-depth experience. In both versions, participants work in teams within a simulated manufacturing environment to apply Lean tools, recognize and eliminate waste, solve problems, and improve workflow. The structured activities allow learners to see the direct impact of Lean practices on productivity, quality, and profitability.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion, participants will have a basic understanding of Lean concepts and how they can be applied in the workplace. Each qualifying participant will receive a Certificate of Completion in Lean 101 from Iowa Western Community College.

· Lean Tools: Standardized Work, 5S, Visual Controls, Plant Layout - 45 minutes

· Simulation: Round Two - 30 minutes

· Lean Tools: Teams, Quick Changeover, Batch Reduction, POUS, Quality at the Source - 45 minutes

· Simulation: Round Three - 30 minutes

· Lean Tools: Pull/Kanban, Cellular Flow, TPM - 45 minutes
